Mile High Club for Radford Dale Chardonnay in BA 1st Class, September 1, 2006
Radford Dale Chardonnay 2004 has been selected for Christmas season travelers in the high-status British Airways Business Class.
Founder Alex Dale of Stellenbosch-based The Winery, is thrilled the wine is achieving such elevation with its seventh vintage.
"The competition to be chosen for BA is fierce. Our more refined style of Chardonnay seems to have tipped the scales in Radford Dale's favour. To produce a wine of individuality and character, I rely on lessons and influences from my upbringing in Burgundy - the original habitat of Chardonnay. There is increasingly a move away from over-oaked, butterscotch-like Chardonnays and a re-emergence of white wines with greater subtlety and personality. This perfectly complements our conditions, on the cool Ocean-facing, decomposed granite slopes of the Helderberg."
Radford Dale Stellenbosch Chardonnay 2004 is genuinely mineral, with a crisp lime-citrus frame, a balanced and fruity palate and with enlightened oaking. This, adds Dale, "is a Chardonnay daring to be individual, focused on backbone and not vanilla".
